Reformer Pilates Classes at Commotion

By Julie Gennaro, Macaroni Kid Assistant Publisher January 25, 2023

I’ve heard great things about Reformer Pilates and have been wanting to try it, but admittedly I’m a little intimidated. The equipment looks complicated and my post-kids stomach is not exactly strong. However, one session at Commotion Pilates gave me the confidence to challenge my body with small and controlled movements during a one hour small group class.

Studio owner Bonnie Slawson, along with her qualified staff, offer sessions that are limited to just 4 people and focus on specific movements that can be tailored to all fitness levels. These moves not only engage your core, but incorporate breathwork, stretching, proper posture, and spine alignment. Working in various positions on the machines, you’ll use your own body weight to slowly elongate and engage the correct muscles, with personalized assistance along the way. While in proper alignment, these movements are broken down into steps that are easy to follow as you tone your whole body. I was surprised at how enjoyable this session was, and I left the studio feeling invigorated and proud of myself for trying something new.

With daytime and evening classes, Commotion Pilates offers effective workouts that fit into your busy schedule. There is also a virtual class that you can do with your mat at home as well as the option for individual private lessons. The staff are friendly and encouraging, as they welcome everyone to try this beneficial low-impact exercise.
