I know this is a popular opinion, but I just LOVE fireworks! Not the backyard kind, although my husband and his friend tend to get some every year. I mean the big, chest-rattling, fill-the-sky, professional fireworks. And I'm so excited that they're on again this year!
From my house, we can count on seeing a couple of pretty big fireworks shows in the days leading up to the 4th. There is a country club and a popular farm nearby, and they both tend to out-do themselves every year with the display they put on for their guests. Those nights that I can sit on my deck with a glass of wine and watch the fireworks from down the road are pretty sweet. But there's nothing quite like the thrill of being in a field filled with families in their red, white, and blue getup with happy music playing and kids running around laughing, then everyone settles in for the BIG show. I love the anticipation that builds when you hear those first few pops and the whizz of the fireworks reaching altitude. Then the ka-thump and rattle of those massive colorful explosions! Each member of my family has a different favorite "shape" of fireworks, and piling up on a blanket to watch them do their thing - one after another after another - well, it's one of my favorite half hours of the whole year. I could just eat it with a spoon.
