Inventing Ourselves - a Note from Holly

By Holly Christy, Publisher January 12, 2021

This might seem like a really obvious thing to say, but I think it's so cool that - no matter how old we are - we can still discover new things about ourselves. For example, I am 39 years old (there, I said it) and I only recently discovered that I love spaghetti squash, lifting weights, and dark Guinness stout. There are probably a dozen other things I've rediscovered this year, too. Like country music - I stopped listening to it back in the late 90s and thought I didn't like it anymore, until I gave it another try. I guess our tastes and preferences change with time.

That idea makes me happy! I'd love to think that someday I might be a white-haired old lady, with hobbies and interests I couldn't even dream of now. Maybe I'll go on those senior citizen bus tours and see new cities, or learn a new language at the community center, or who knows - be a wrinkly old power-lifter! And that's the point, I suppose. We're constantly inventing ourselves, and what could be more creative than that?

Keep trying new things and opening yourself up to new possibilities! You never know what you'll fall in love with, and what you'll learn about yourself along the way. I'd never be six years into this gig with Macaroni Kid if I hadn't put myself out there and tried something new!

I'll see you out there -
