Spending some quality one-on-one time with your spouse is crucial, but it's not always easy to come by. When Covid came on the scene, a lot of us starting getting creative with dates to avoid the standard indoor 'dinner and a movie' type of plan. There were picnics, bike rides, golf, and any number of other outdoor activities. But now that it's so cold and dark, finding things to do that are both socially distant and weather appropriate has been a challenge. I recently asked for date ideas on Facebook, and am sharing them in the hopes that it helps you the next time you get a date night. Enjoy!
๐ For the Homebodies
- Solve a mystery like Hunt a Killer or ClueIQ's at-home "escape room" box
- Pick up some individual 'fancy' beers and have a beer (or wine) tasting at home
- Spa night with soft music, bubble bath, massages, facials, etc.
- Takeout from a favorite restaurant and board games, cards, or a puzzle
- International theme - choose a country and enjoy their food, movies, music
- Cook together (make-your-own pizzas, appetizers, or even a challenging gourmet meal)
- Blindfolded taste test
- Make a craft together, or for each other (Sharpie mugs, We Art Fun ceramics, Couples handprint crafts)
- "Netflix and chill"
- Buy a fancy coffee maker - sip cappuccino and read aloud to each other
- Be big kids and play Wii Sports Resort, have a Nerf battle, or play risque hide and seek
- Fondue - cheese, chocolate, or preferably both
๐งค Bundle Up and Get Outside
- Book a hot air balloon ride
- Top Golf in Germantown
- Take in the views from Sugarloaf Mountain
- Go Ice Skating
- An electric blanket, a thermos of hot drinks, and star gazing with the StarTracker app
- Get in the swing at the batting cages
- Sit around the firepit at home or at any of our awesome local breweries and wineries
- Try paintball
- People watching and monument hopping in DC
- Go horseback riding
- Day trip! Skiing at Liberty Mountain Resort
๐๏ธ For those Willing to Go Inside
I know we're going for Covid-cautious, and some may object to going indoors. But these ideas were recommended by local moms because, in their experience, the venue was particularly careful about social distancing.
- Check out the new Warehouse Cinemas
- Shoot some pool at Champion Billiards
- Beer, laser tag, bowling, Hologate VR, and arcade games at Adventure Park USA
- Axe throwing at Stumpy's Hatchet House
- Overnight in a hotel room - room service, a plush bed, and maybe an indoor pool and hot tub
๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฆ Can't Shake the Shorties?
- Family movie night with popcorn and snow cones
- Set up a giant obstacle course or play 'the floor is lava'
- Dress up for a "fancy" family dinner (even if it's frozen pizza)
- Tuck the kids in and play "Truth or Dare" or "Would You Rather"
- If your kids are old enough, let them set up a restaurant and be your servers and chefs
